CAPTAIN’S ADDRESS
It’s been a few years now since I made the move up the valley a few miles to join the elite bowlers at the MECCA. Yet I still feel like a new boy when mixing with those that have been here for such a long time. I have been made very welcome and enjoyed success in this relatively short time and now I have the honour and privilege to be elected as your Club Captain for 2012.
I look forward to serving the Club to the best of my ability and uphold the traditions and standards of my predecessors. As my back-up, I will have Vice-Captain, Tony Brown to call on, and I’m sure I’ll also have the backing of all the good officers at Crosskeys.
My thanks go to the immediate past Captain, Martin, but I hope no-one will expect me to match his long speeches. In 2011 we also had the South Mon President in this Club and having listened to Mitch’s speeches, I may have to call on him for assistance in researching the opposition and typing out my speeches for this coming season.
Last year the Club celebrated its 90th Anniversary and this, the first year of a new decade, we hope success will continue for the club and its individuals. This will also be a new chapter in the clubs history as a number of the long-time officers have stepped down from there posts after giving the club great service over past years. They are leaving behind some very big boots to fill but I am sure those newly elected will continue the superb standard they have set.
We consolidated our position in the Monmouthshire Bowling Association’s 1st Division last season but it would be great achievement for myself and the club if we could push-on and compete for a top position within the division and also have a good run in the Carruthers Shield.
May I also take this opportunity of congratulating Paul Watkins on being elected as Monmouthshire B. A. Junior Vice-President for 2012 and look forward to him taking up the President’s position in 2014. I’m sure as a Club we will all support him as well as we are able.
Finally a warm welcome to the new members that have joined us this season, all a great addition to Crosskeys B.C, I am sure you will enjoy playing for our great club and having a few shandys with your fellow members..
